Year 5 News and Events

Year 5 Collective Worship & Information Morning

Thank you very much for joining us for our collective worship on Friday 7th February. The children enjoyed showing you their topic work.

Below is a copy of the PowerPoint of the information given during the information morning which followed collective worship - it's regarding the end of key stage 2 expectations. If you have any questions, please do feel free to get in touch.

The Year 5 children are really excited about launching their fundraising campaign to raise the money towards our coach costs for the Year 6 residential. Letters will be emailed to parents soon notifying you of the events they have planned. Thank you for all your support!

The Grand Total...

Thank you very much for your kind contributions to BBC Children in Need - the children enjoyed their dance-a-thon and our video was submitted to Children In Need to evidence our contribution.

As a class, we managed to raise an impressive £232.39 through sponsorship.

As well as the children gaining a greater understanding of our school value of generosity, they have also gained valuable experience in how to fundraise and how they can play their part in making a difference to the lives of those more in need.

Generosity - Our School Value

Year 5 will be raising money for BBC Children In Need by taking part in a 'dance-a-thon' and by asking for sponsorship if possible. Below is a copy of the letter sent to Parents and Carers.

World War 2 - Hook Day

We thoroughly enjoyed our second hook day of the year and the children are engrossed in their new topic! We have had lots of children bringing in artefacts from their family related to World War 2 which has been fascinating!

During the hook day, we look at Axis and Allies, and zoned in on the countries in Europe and which side they were on during the war. We then looked at propaganda posters and created our own using a graphite transfer technique. We also created an identity card which the children had to carry with them and went through our knowledge organiser.

Ancient Egyptians - Hook Day

We thoroughly enjoyed our Hook Day on the Ancient Egyptians and it created a lot of excitement about our new History topic. We are currently conducting a mummification experiment (of a tomato!) so please feel free to ask your child about the progress of the tomato as we will be conducting the experiment over three weeks.

Residential Information Evening

Thank you very much to those who attended the information evening on the 11th September about the residential visit that will take place when your child is in Year 6. If you couldn't attend the evening, I recommend you check out the Kingswood website for further information, or feel free to ask me any questions or address any concerns with me and I will help where possible.

Residential - Year 6

A letter has been sent home inviting your child to take part in the Year 6 residential in September 2020. An information evening has been organised on the 11th September, 3.30pm, which you are invited to attend to gain further information about the visit.
