If you are behind on any aspect of the work, start by completing the work set in Week 1 & Week 2.
BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons
The BBC have teamed up with a range of specialists to offer some daily lessons! You can tune in, watch the videos and have a go when suits you. You can find those free, daily lessons here:
BBC Two - GCSE Bitesize Revision
Select the appropriate year group and join in with the daily sessions - there are 3 or 4 sessions per day in a range of different subjects. The Topic sessions this week support our topics that we have done in school like Ancient Egyptians and The Solar System (we called it Earth and Space) so test your knowledge on these!
White Rose Maths
We have been told that the BBC Bitesize maths aspects will incorporate some of the White Rose Maths, but you can also access those directly here. If you don't have a printer, do not worry as you can just write the questions or do your working out on some paper.
STEM
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths - have a go at these activities. More details can be found on the links in the document if you wish to develop a skill further.
Spellings, Times Tables and Number Knowledge
As always, you can work on SpellingShed | TTRockstars | Numbots.
P.E
You can continue with the Joe Wicks workouts, or designing your own to ensure you keep fit and healthy! If you enjoyed the Marvel/Avengers Dance that we looked at in PE, you can see that here!

Week 2:
I hope you are all keeping well! Continue with the learning pack if not yet completed and I hope you are enjoying your reading books that you chose before you left school on the Friday.
English
Practise your spellings!
In MyCity there are 2 comprehension activities to complete
Newspaper Report
In MyCity (Education City) there is an activity recounting the features of a newspaper (it's called Rainforest Report - click Newspaper Report).
Write a newspaper report that tells readers about the Theme Park competition winners, Liam and Florida. Remember that Florida is pretending to be Liam's daughter and Liam is pretending to be an grown up - so think about their language choices when you are writing quotes from these characters.
You can use this template to help if you'd like. You may also like to type up your newspaper report.

Maths
Practise your times tables.
Develop your recall of addition/subtraction and number facts.
White Rose
White Rose Maths have provided activities which shall be updated weekly. You can access them here.
In MyCity there are some Maths activities to complete after the White Rose sessions.

Year 5 News and Events

Year 5 Collective Worship & Information Morning

Thank you very much for joining us for our collective worship on Friday 7th February. The children enjoyed showing you their topic work.

Below is a copy of the PowerPoint of the information given during the information morning which followed collective worship - it's regarding the end of key stage 2 expectations. If you have any questions, please do feel free to get in touch.

Fundraising

The Year 5 children are really excited about launching their fundraising campaign to raise the money towards our coach costs for the Year 6 residential. Letters will be emailed to parents soon notifying you of the events they have planned. Thank you for all your support!

The Grand Total...

Thank you very much for your kind contributions to BBC Children in Need - the children enjoyed their dance-a-thon and our video was submitted to Children In Need to evidence our contribution.

As a class, we managed to raise an impressive £232.39 through sponsorship.

As well as the children gaining a greater understanding of our school value of generosity, they have also gained valuable experience in how to fundraise and how they can play their part in making a difference to the lives of those more in need.

Generosity - Our School Value

Year 5 will be raising money for BBC Children In Need by taking part in a 'dance-a-thon' and by asking for sponsorship if possible. Below is a copy of the letter sent to Parents and Carers.

World War 2 - Hook Day

We thoroughly enjoyed our second hook day of the year and the children are engrossed in their new topic! We have had lots of children bringing in artefacts from their family related to World War 2 which has been fascinating!

During the hook day, we look at Axis and Allies, and zoned in on the countries in Europe and which side they were on during the war. We then looked at propaganda posters and created our own using a graphite transfer technique. We also created an identity card which the children had to carry with them and went through our knowledge organiser.

Ancient Egyptians - Hook Day

We thoroughly enjoyed our Hook Day on the Ancient Egyptians and it created a lot of excitement about our new History topic. We are currently conducting a mummification experiment (of a tomato!) so please feel free to ask your child about the progress of the tomato as we will be conducting the experiment over three weeks.

Residential Information Evening

Thank you very much to those who attended the information evening on the 11th September about the residential visit that will take place when your child is in Year 6. If you couldn't attend the evening, I recommend you check out the Kingswood website for further information, or feel free to ask me any questions or address any concerns with me and I will help where possible.

Residential - Year 6

A letter has been sent home inviting your child to take part in the Year 6 residential in September 2020. An information evening has been organised on the 11th September, 3.30pm, which you are invited to attend to gain further information about the visit.
